Pulse Reveal

Attention Broke Into Smaller Pieces

The week left people active but rarely absorbed; every task seemed to arrive with another tab already open.

The Pulse was not simply about being busy. It was about living at the scale of the notification: short actions, quick switches, and many small proofs of movement. Several signals described self-interruption. The phone did not always demand attention; attention went looking for the phone. Easy messages replaced difficult work, and entertainment was changed before it had time to become absorbing. What the week left behind was not emptiness but shallowness: plenty of contact with tasks, conversations, and media, without the feeling of having entered any of them fully.
